Words cannot even begin to express how much I loved this show. I was center stage, in the second row of the pit. I was literally right up next to the stage, which was amazing. It also meant that I got to have some fantastic interaction with the actors on stage.

Fact #1 - my 2 favorite songs from the musical are “The Guilty Ones” and “The Bitch of Living”

Fact #2 - My seat just so happened to be directly in front of the one Moritz sits in for his Latin Class

Fact #3 - Moritz sings “The Bitch of Living”

Fact #4 - As soon as the music starts for the song, I very noticeably react.

Fact #5 - As soon as he starts singing, Moritz (played by the ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS COBY GETZUG), looks dead at me (as I am mouthing the words along), and proceeds to sing the song to me. At first, I was just like “oh, no big deal, he is just making contact with everyone.” But, no. He looks me dead in the eye for the whole opening of the song, and I blush, laugh, and mouth the words along, then grin and laugh (and I notice he has to fight back a laugh for a millisecond). My mom then proceeds to slap my arm for the duration of the song, out of sheer excitement that he is singing to me

Fact #6 - I was in musical heaven after that - I didn’t think it could get any better.

Fact #7 - I was wrong.

Fact #8 - I was one of the few people in my section familiar with the music, and I was subtly mouthing along with the songs I knew. During “Totally Fucked,” 2 cast members sang to me - the adorable Daniel Plimpton (Ernst), and George Salazar, who played Otto (both of them were adorable and amazing in their roles). Lastly, during “The Song of Purple Summer,” Aliya Bowles (Martha) noticed I was mouthing along (once again), and she sang at me and smiled when I jammed along.

I’m still speechless. My mother and I both adored the show, it was beautiful, and moving, and the cast was simply perfect. I also have such a better appreciation for the soundtrack and music now that I have seen the story and context acted out in front of me.

Moritz really stole the show though, he was perfect. He had a tall order to fill, but he met the role and really made it his own.

It.

It was just so good.
