May 2013

I just realized that 42 seconds into 4:23 pm on August 4, 2015, that will be the only moment in our lifetime where the date is all of The Numbers from Lost in order: 4/8/15, 16:23:42

The 85th Annual Academy Awards: My Thoughts on the Major Awards

Best Picture:

What will win: ARGO

What should win: ARGO

Dark Horse: Silver Linings Playbook (meaning it is my second choice ;) )

Best Director:

Who will win: If write-in’s were permitted, it would be Ben Affleck’s. If this does not happen, then I’m going with David O’Russell for Silver Linings. He really put his all into the film, and it shows.

Who should win: AFFLECK

Dark Horse: Ang Lee, Life of Pi

Best Actor:

Win: Hugh Jackman, Les Mis

Should Win: Joaquin Phoenix, The Master - the performance of his career, and easily of the year.

Dark Horse: Bradley Cooper, Silver Linings - because I can dream.

Best Actress:

Win: I’m giving this one to Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings

Should Win: I think the award is really just a two-person race between Jessica Chastain and J.Law, and they are both very deserving.

Dark Horse: I really thing that little Quvenzhané Wallis could shock everyone by receiving the award. I haven’t seen the film, but I’ve heard that she packs a punch, and she is only like, 9!

Best Supporting Actor:

Win: Christoph Waltz, Django Unchained (only because he has taken all the other awards this season).

Should Win: Robert De Niro, Silver Linings

Dark Horse: Alan Arkin, Argo - simply because he has won already (why, I don’t really know :/ )

Best Supporting Actress:

Win: Anne Hathaway, Les Mis - totally deserves it.

Best Original Screenplay:

Win: I’m giving this one to Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained, even though I don’t think he has it in the bag

Should Win: Moonrise Kingdom

Dark Horse (probable winner): Zero Dark Thirty - I refuse to pick this as a win because it is not an original concept (as it tackles real subject matter), but I think it will probably take the award.

Best Adapted Screenplay:

Win: Argo

Should Win: Life of Pi - if anyone has read the novel, then you know that it was a tough one to approach, and for years was called the “unadaptable book.” I thought the adaptation was stellar, and definitely deserves recognition.

Dark Horse: Silver Linings (I would not be mad at all if this happens).

Best Original Song:

Win: Skyfall, without question.

I will post the technical categories soon, but I wanted to get out the predictions for the big awards
